_____________________________________ MARK TRAIL, the radio series, was based on the long-running comic stripof the same name created by Ed Dodd. While the radio series only lasted some 2 1/2 years, the MARK TRAIL comic strip has been around since 1946. This soft-spoken comic-strip star and veteran outdoorsman has been teaching people to preserve our natural resources - woods, water and wildlife - for future generations. The comic strip is currently seen in 175 papers and reaches over 23 million readers worldwide. There were 2 MARK TRAIL series, the first on Mutual running from Jan.1, 1950 through June 8, 1951 with 30-minute shows, airing on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Matt Crowley played the role of MARK TRAIL. It was sponsored by Kellogg's Pep and later Kellogg's Corn Flakes. The second series aired on the ABC network from Sept. 10, 1951 toJune 27, 1952. The shows continued to be 30 minutes in length Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but on Jan. 7, 1952 went to one story line, five times a week Monday through Friday with each program 15 minutes. Staats Costworth portrayed Mark TRAIL.
